Skating Sunday!

Good day!

Today was a really active day~
We traveled the whole 30 miles to the "nearest" roller rink Springfield's own "Skate World", for a day of roller skating.
This place is a classic. Cheap entry, old skates, black lights, disco balls, pop music, obnoxious colors,  the works.
Really, though, it's a whole lot of fun and a place that we appreciate a lot. Especially on Sundays because from noon until 4 p.m. parents skate free! So we only had to pay for Ella's admission ($5.75) and all four of us got to skate.
That's right. The four of us!
How can this be, you wonder?
Because Skate World is awesome about letting kiddos in strollers "skate" on the floor too!

Look at that crazy reflective effect... @_@

So little William joined us and was quite impressed by the views of skaters zooming past, lights blinking and swirling, and the feel of us gliding along.
Well, at least he liked it for the first hour or so. After that, Dash was such a trooper and looked after him in the food court until he finally dozed off. William, that is. Not Dash ;)

It is so much fun skating with Ella Rose. She's pretty darn good, I must say. Granted, she has to hold my hand the entire time, but I can go at a fairly good pace, and she'll just glide right along with me. Bravo to her! Sorry I don't have any photos of her from this outing, but there are some from previous ones floating around here somewhere!

I love how the skates made me over 6' tall! Ha!
Ella Rose also has incredible stamina, and pretty much had me on rink all the way up until the free-parents period ended. So at home I was feeling pretty bushed. But even though Dash wanted very badly to watch "the game" on TV, he also watched both kids and got dinner ready too!
How does he do it sometimes??
He is also so good at getting down to that goofy childish state that the kids really connect with him on. Whereas I tend to instruct and scold in a matter-of-fact way, Dash keeps the mood light with the kids even when he has to correct their behavior, by saying it just so darn nicely. Always an inspiration!! Or maybe we make a good balanced parenting pair in that way? I'm the business side and he's the leisure? Well, either way, he's a fantastic Papa and I love him to bits. ♡

Tickling and "hiding in a cave" after dinner.

Oh!
And you can't see it very well in the photo above, but William is really into standing as of this past week or so. It's fun to see him challenge himself by craning his neck to look at something above or behind him while he stands (while not holding onto things, mind you!) And he also likes to grab onto our pant legs and "walk" behind us while we walk.
Here's my latest Dashiell Divination --William will be walking sometime before his ninth month is up! He just turned 9 months last Wednesday, so he's got three more weeks to go. We'll see what happens ;)

Well!
Until tomorrow, take care and Happy Skating!!

  1. What a great entry! I'm so happy that you had a great time at the skating rink. But more than that, it makes me so giddy and very proud of you and Dash regarding your parenting styles. It's obvious that the kids love being with him tons! I understand how you tend to be more discipline-y in a militant sort of way (not necessarily bad!) but the balance is key! Good job!
